Real B*llsh#t Podcast: Everybody's Favorite Cousins
The start of the logo, the brand and the reason me, Nyles & Kile came together in the first place, is because of our podcast, The Real B*llsh#t Podcast. The idea for the podcast started back in 2015 when we all started following each other on Twitter. The brand wasn't even thought of at the time, but we knew we were all likeminded on what we thought was funny and cool. Fast forward to a year later, we finally started linking up at Kile's house and plotting on how we would start the podcast along with the brand. 2 years later from that summer and almost 2 years exactly since we officially launched the podcast (Black Friday), it's done more for the brand than we anticipated.
Timing is everything. Jersey is in a really interesting place creatively. I can't say I remember a time when there were this many talented people with the potential to make it out of here. The podcast started at the perfect time because all of our peers went from treating their talents as hobbies to something that they're trying to make a career out of. People are starting magazines (shoutout to the good people over at Fruit Magazine!), clothing lines, labels (Upperclass Ent. and Dishonor, waddup), photography studios and more. We just wanted to be able to document this time special time we're in. Kind of a like a capsule. We're not really concerned with trying to be the absolute best podcast. We're more concerned with just capturing the moment that's happening right now. We care about the quality and I would be lying if I said we don't want people to play our episodes. We definitely care about that, but I wouldn't be telling truth if I said that's all we care about. Establishing that connection between us and the people we have on the show is what's most important.
The podcast and our brand in general is built on keeping everything genuine. Our intentions. Our integrity. Our friendships and connections. Everything. Sometimes with social media, we can get lost in just talking to people on the internet and we miss a very important opportunity to meet with those people and shake hands in person and that's really what the podcast allowed us to do. People were already in tune with who we are on the internet but once they met us in person, they realized that we're solid dudes. That's how a lot of our relationships were built. It's one thing to tell someone you appreciate their music or their phorography, but it's something entirely different to invite them on the show and give them the room to talk about it. If we think you're dope, we'll always reach out.
The biggest difference between this year and last year is that the level of respect has grown. That mutual respect is what sparked our slogan "Everybody's Favorite Cousins". It comes from the sensibility that we're not cool with EVERYBODY, but we're cool with everybody. The more people I meet, the more I realize how small Jersey really is. Everybody knows everybody. Having that in mind, we figured that we might as well have everyone know us or recognize us for being cool and bringing people together than the opposite. The internet is great, but nothing beats face to face interaction. We're on our 10th episode of season 2 and we're keeping the motto the same. Let's meet with everybody and keep the good energy going. Link up in real life. It's important. It's beneficial. Real B*llsh#t Podcast. Everybody's Favorite Cousins.
